ABP in the Community

The Africa Book Project is an active member of the community and takes part in many events throughout the city in order to raise awareness and money to ship educational materials through individual and corporate donations. One of the many memorable events ABP took part in was the Legacies 2009: The Battle celebration held at the University of Calgary last March. This event, organized by Collectively Eclectic in partnership with the University of Calgary, was part of the celebrations held during Black History Month.

The event featured music, poetry, art and fashion with artists from across the nation like the Black Ice Step Team from Toronto, Solejaz Step from Edmonton and Adejoke Taiwo, 2009 project runway Canada contestant, who put on a fashion show featuring her own creations.

Legacies 2009: The Battle was a celebration of the accomplishments of Black people in Canada and through the Africa Book Project, the event’s charity of choice, it reminded the public of the great need people in Africa live with each day and what African people can accomplish when they have the resources to reach their full potential.
